Club Teams, How Many Players Do You Need

By Travel Coach Tim Wargo

One of the main questions asked when coaches try to put a team together is “How many players on the team?”  Playing time is important, especially when there is a large fee required to join the team.  Nobody wants to pay $600 - $700 and sit on the bench.  Yet only nine (or 10 with DP - EP - DH, whatever) is used.  A real legitimate concern for the less talented players.  Unfortunaltely this stuff does go on.  Players come to a team with great expectations only to find little meaningful playing time once the games start.  Many times they are branded as trouble-makers when they complain or leave the team.  Sometimes they are, but sometimes they are not.
