In the old days of youth fastpitch, pitching dominated. Leapers could Crow Hop and sling inclined riseballs and intimidated kids would shy away or feebly swing. Today, the world between the lines has changed significantly. Better year around training, improved equipment, and extensive player experience have contributed to making the change - up a strike out pitch for top hurlers. Female fastpitch hitters are in better shape, practice more, and face good pitching in almost every game. Thus the sport has grown to the point, that for pitchers, knowing what to throw to a hitters is more important than simple speed. There is no pitcher at any level of fastpitch play today capable of throwing a ball and more specifically a pitch in or near the strike zone so fast that a trained batter can't make fair contact with it!
